Oškobrh

Oškobrh is a protected hill in Central Bohemia that spans multiple municipalities, including Opolany, Odrepsy, and Dobsice u Zehuне. The hill contains a mouflon breeding area closed to visitors, while marked hiking trails circle its perimeter.

People settled on this hill during the Hallstatt and La Tene periods, leaving behind burial grounds with household items from those eras. Medieval fortifications and religious structures later developed, showing the site's enduring importance across centuries.

The hill served as a significant settlement during the Iron Age, with evidence of defensive works and small chapels built by past communities. These structures reflect the importance this location held for earlier inhabitants.

The marked hiking trails around the hill are freely accessible and well signposted, allowing visitors to explore the area comfortably. The interior breeding area remains restricted, but the views across the surrounding land compensate for this limitation.

The name derives from the Celtic word askdum, revealing an ancient connection between this location and cultures of antiquity. This linguistic link demonstrates how deeply history is woven into the hill's identity.
