Hotel International, hotel in Brno
Hotel International is an eleven-story building in central Brno that combines modern architecture with Brussels style, featuring clean lines and large glass surfaces. The interior includes reception areas, restaurants, bars, and approximately 300 guest rooms, while public spaces are structured through artworks and varied materials.
The building was constructed between 1959 and 1962, inspired by Brazilian architecture and late functionalism, to accommodate visitors during the city's trade fairs. After the fall of communism in 1989, the building was privatized and has been operated by a private company since 1992.
The hotel takes its name from its international purpose and reflects the city's cosmopolitan ambitions of that era. Public spaces display artworks by local artists that conveyed the spirit of the 1960s, making it a place where artistic expression from that period remains visible in everyday use.
The hotel is located on Husova Street in the city center, near the old town and Spilberk Castle, and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors will find parking spaces in front of and underneath the building, along with several restaurants and bars both inside and in the immediate surroundings.
The entrance features a remarkably intricate glass and metal grille created by artists Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová, decorated with wheel and dragon motifs. This artwork demonstrates the craftsmanship and artistic sophistication that runs throughout the building.
