Sychrov Castle comprises medieval fortification ruins positioned on a hilltop overlooking the Střela River valley, with visible stone walls and foundations remaining. The site spreads across several levels with distinct areas for defense and residence.
The fortress was founded in the 15th century as a guardpost for trade routes crossing Bohemia. It later lost military importance and declined into the ruined state visible today.
The ruins display features of a medieval defensive structure that sheltered both nobles and merchants. Visitors can read from the foundations how rooms were once arranged inside the walls.
The site is accessible by marked hiking trails from the town center, with parking available nearby. The grounds require sturdy footwear due to uneven paths and rocky surfaces.
