Divadlo Miriam, Community theatre in Strašnice, Prague, Czech Republic

Divadlo Miriam is a theatre hall in Strašnice, created in 1995 by converting the ground-floor chapel of the 1930 parish building. The hall seats up to one hundred spectators and has a stage, spotlights and sound equipment; the building belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

The parish building on this site dates from 1930, when its ground floor held a provisional chapel for the newly established Strašnice Catholic parish. After the new Church of the Immaculate Conception was built opposite in 1992–1994, the chapel was converted in 1995 into a theatre hall seating up to one hundred spectators.

The amateur ensemble Máj, founded in 1956, has performed at Divadlo Miriam since 2009, staging fairy tales for children alongside plays for adults. In 2023, after a five-year break, it took the production Mařka, directed by Jaroslav Kodeš, to the national amateur theatre festival Jiráskův Hronov.

The theatre occupies a building that once housed parish priests before becoming a performance space. This second life of the former parsonage demonstrates how such structures can take on entirely new cultural roles.
