Hauswaldská kaple, Chapel ruins near Srní, Czech Republic
Hauswaldská Chapel is a ruined chapel in forest setting near Srní, with stone walls and foundations still visible alongside a natural spring and markers indicating its original layout. The site spans several clearings where visitors can trace the outline of the former structure through the wooded landscape.
The chapel was built in 1820 as a pilgrimage destination and underwent several construction phases before its destruction during military operations in 1957. Most artifacts disappeared after this destruction, leaving only scattered remains of the structure.
The chapel site remains a place where visitors leave offerings and collect water from the spring, continuing practices rooted in local religious tradition. These gestures connect people to the spiritual character of the location.
The site is accessible via a forest trail that runs about 5 kilometers, equipped with benches and informational signs featuring quotes from local author Karel Klostermann. The path passes through natural woodland and is walkable year-round, though sturdy footwear is recommended during wetter months.
A statue of Our Lady of Lourdes survived the chapel's destruction and is now housed in the church of Srní. This artwork is the sole significant object from the site's past that was preserved.
