Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel

The Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel is a religious building in Pohoří na Šumavě in South Bohemia. The structure features an unusual roof design with two separate ridges separated by a narrow opening that allows natural light to enter the interior space.

The building was constructed during a period when this border region between Czechia and Austria was heavily restricted for civilian access. After border restrictions ended, local communities regained the ability to use and maintain the structure freely.

The church interior features wooden block tiles on the ground that bear countless shoe sole imprints, marking generations of worshippers passing through.

The site is easily accessible on foot and sits in a rural setting within the Šumava region. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear as paths in this border landscape can be uneven and variable.

The roof system uses an unusual construction method with boards of varying lengths connected by threaded rods. This ring-based structural principle provides the support that stabilizes the entire building.
