Velké Březno Old Castle, Schloss in Tschechien
The Velké Březno Old Castle is a two-story building with a mansard roof located on the riverside in the town of Velké Březno. The south facade displays symmetrical design with a central doorway and slightly rounded corners that date from the early 1700s.
The building was constructed in the 1700s by the Harrach family after acquiring the property in 1716. In the 1800s, Count Karel Chotek purchased the castle and expanded it with an additional floor, mansard roof, and small tower.
The name Velké Březno refers to birch trees that once covered the area. Visitors can walk through the castle grounds today and experience the quiet park setting that reflects the region's noble past.
The castle is not open to the public as it currently serves as a nursing home. The south facade is visible from the street and provides a clear view of its historic architecture.
Old cellar rooms and underground spaces from the original fortress may still exist beneath the building but remain inaccessible today. These hidden chambers hint at an even older history that likely predates the 1700s.
