Ústřední tržnice na Smíchově, Market hall in Smíchov district, Prague, Czech Republic
The Ústřední tržnice na Smíchově is a market hall in the Smíchov district with multiple sales spaces for food and goods. Hall 22 houses roughly 80 stands where vendors sell fresh produce, herbs, seafood, and organic products.
The building was constructed in 1895 as a slaughterhouse and designed by architect Alois Čenský. Over time, its original function was replaced with a diverse marketplace that also includes art spaces.
The market is connected to Jatka 78, a space for contemporary art performances and alternative events. This area draws artists and visitors interested in local and international exhibitions.
The market opens Monday through Friday from 07:30 to 17:00 and Saturday from 07:30 to 14:00. It is best to arrive early, as the widest selection of products is available in the morning hours.
Within the complex is the Chef Parade Cooking School, which offers cooking classes and operates a specialized store for herbs and spices. This offering combines culinary education directly with ingredient shopping.
