Church of Saint Leonard

The Church of Saint Leonard is a medieval ruin set within a forested landscape near Karlovy Vary's thermal springs. Stone walls still stand in their original positions, showing the layout and construction of this Romanesque structure that served a now-vanished village community.

Documentation first mentions the church in 1246 as a Romanesque structure serving its surrounding village. The settlement gradually emptied over time, leaving the building abandoned and its walls to weather the centuries in the forest.

The ruins reflect the religious life that once centered on this forest clearing in western Bohemia. Medieval communities gathered here for worship, and the stone structure still conveys their connection to faith and to this remote landscape.

The ruins are accessible via marked trails within the protected landscape area surrounding Karlovy Vary. Wear sturdy footwear and come prepared for a forest walk, as the church sits deep in wooded terrain away from town centers.
