Zlíchov Distillery, 19th century distillery in Smíchov, Czech Republic.
Zlíchov Distillery is an industrial complex of red brick construction with large windows typical of 19th century Czech manufacturing buildings. The facility was designed to house both production areas and administrative spaces within its substantial stone walls.
The distillery was built during Prague's industrial boom and operated for most of the 20th century as spirits production became a signature of Smíchov's economy. The facility was finally shuttered in 2019 after more than a century of continuous manufacturing.
The site reflects the neighborhood's identity as a working-class manufacturing hub where spirit production shaped daily life and local economy. You can see how industrial facilities were woven into residential areas, with the distillery serving as a central part of Smíchov's identity.
The building is easily accessible by public transport, with trams and buses serving the Smíchov area and connecting to central Prague. From street level you can see the exterior and appreciate the industrial architecture, though you should note that the interior is not open to visitors.
The site is protected as a cultural monument, preserving production methods and equipment that are no longer used anywhere in the region. It stands as a record of how distilleries once anchored entire neighborhoods and provided livelihoods for thousands of workers.
