Butovice Gord

Butovice Gord is an ancient Slavic fortification with preserved earthen walls and traces of wooden structures positioned on elevated ground. The settlement uses the natural slope of the terrain to create defensive positions and overlook the surrounding landscape.

The fortification emerged in the early medieval period when Slavic tribes built defensive settlements across Central Europe. It belongs to a network of such structures that developed over several centuries before eventually being abandoned.

The settlement reveals how people lived and worked in this community, with traces of crafts and daily objects found in the soil. Visitors can observe through the excavations how residents organized themselves and protected against threats.

The site is accessible through marked paths that allow visitors to experience the ancient structure in its natural setting. The earthen walls are partially covered with vegetation, making the defensive layout easy to understand on foot.

Today the fortification sits within a modern residential area, showing how ancient defensive sites became integrated into the urban landscape. This proximity to the city allows visitors to see the historical layer directly within a contemporary setting.
