The meteorological radar facility stands at 730 meters above sea level with a 37-meter antenna tower collecting atmospheric data across central Moravia.
The Skalky meteorological radar station began operations in 1995 as part of the Czech national weather monitoring network alongside the Brdy station.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute organizes annual open days at the radar station, allowing visitors to explore the technical equipment inside the tower.
The radar provides coverage within a 250-kilometer radius, measuring precipitation patterns, wind velocities, and atmospheric conditions for weather forecasting purposes.
The Vaisala-manufactured radar operates at 5645 MHz frequency, scanning precipitation patterns up to 14 kilometers in altitude with 1-kilometer horizontal resolution.
