Jiráskovy mlýny, Historic watermill complex in Louny, Czech Republic
Jiráskovy mlýny is a watermill complex straddling both banks of the Ohře River with multiple buildings featuring neo-Renaissance style elements. The site was enlarged over time while maintaining its original grain-processing function.
The mill complex originated in 1604 and expanded across several centuries. Following a fire in 1895, František Jirásek acquired the Režná and Šejdovna mills, connecting his name permanently to the site.
The mills show how people in the region processed grain and relied on water power for their livelihoods over centuries. Visitors can observe how this work shaped daily life in the town.
The complex sits about 400 meters from Louny's town center and is easily reached on foot. Guided tours allow visitors to explore the preserved structures and see how the milling equipment functioned.
The facility operated as an active mill for nearly 350 years before becoming part of a larger mill network in 1947. This long independent operation makes it a rare example of continuous production in the region.
