Rozhledna Fryštát, Observation tower in Karviná, Czech Republic

Rozhledna Fryštát is a steel observation tower standing by the Fryštát chateau park in Karviná. A staircase inside the structure leads up to a viewing platform, from which the tower, the park and the built-up area of the city can be seen.

The tower emerged as part of Karviná's modern development, a city rooted in medieval origins. The settlement later transformed into an industrial center of the Moravian-Silesian region, with the structure reflecting this evolution.

The name Fryštát refers to the historic town whose centre lies below the tower, now part of Karviná. Visitors reach the lookout on foot along a marked path from the Fryštát district, and the spot is used mainly for walks and views over the old town and the post-mining landscape.

The tower stands by the Fryštát chateau park in Karviná, a short walk from the town centre. Access to the viewing platform is by an outdoor steel staircase, so the climb is not sheltered and is unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Check the weather before setting out, as the exposed structure is closed in strong wind or ice.

The tower stands on the site of the former Fryštát mine, opened in 1903 and closed in 1992, which once employed thousands of miners. Visitors can still make out the reclaimed spoil heaps and the flat ground of the former pit yard from the viewing platform.
