Church of Transfiguration, Chapel in Lipová-lázně, Czech Republic

The Church of Transfiguration sits in Lipová-lázně as a modest stone structure adapted to the mountain landscape with simple local building details. Inside, the space is arranged for worship with religious furnishings dedicated to both patron saints.

The chapel was built in 2013–2014 on the initiative of the Orthodox church community in Jeseník and the association Kostelík v horách; construction took exactly one year, one month and one day. It was designed by Jindřich Kaňka, Vilma Kaňková and Vojtěch Koudelka, opened on 23 August 2014 and consecrated on 27 June 2015. It serves as a WWII prisoner-of-war memorial and is the first Orthodox church in Czech Silesia.

The chapel is dedicated both to the Feast of the Transfiguration and to Saint Nectarios of Aegina, a Greek saint. Regular Orthodox services are held here, and almost daily akathist devotions take place alongside the liturgies. Memorial events for war victims are also held, tied to its second role as a memorial.

The chapel stands in Horní Lipová, part of Lipová-lázně, with a simple park layout around it and views of the Jeseníky mountains. The foundation stone bears the years 863–2013: 863 marks the arrival of Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia, 2013 the laying of the stone. The chapel also has no true iconostasis; a low metal grille replaces it, with icons placed on analogia in front. Construction took exactly one year, one month and one day.
