Educational trail Heřmanický rybník

The three-kilometer trail winds around the 116-hectare pond, featuring wooden platforms extending through extensive reed beds and observation points for wildlife viewing.

Since 1972, the pond system has served as a reservoir for saline mine waters from the Ostrava-Karviná coal mining region that operated for 150 years.

The educational path contains five information panels teaching visitors about local ecology, bird species, and the mining heritage of the Moravian-Silesian region.

Visitors can access multiple wooden observation platforms along the trail, with designated rest areas and a bird watching station overlooking the pond.

The water composition contains high levels of minerals, boron, and iodine, creating specific conditions that attract 250 different bird species throughout the year.
