Columbia Township Auditorium
Columbia Township Auditorium, Historic auditorium in Columbia, United States.
Columbia Township Auditorium is a three-story brick structure featuring Georgian Revival design with Doric columns at the entrance. The interior contains flexible seating arrangements designed to accommodate different types of events.
The building was constructed in 1930 during an era of cultural development. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, and a major renovation in 2009 updated the facility while preserving its original character.
The space hosted performances by legendary musicians including Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, and Elvis Presley over the decades. These performances shaped how the community views this building as a cultural landmark.
The space accommodates approximately 3,000 guests during standard concerts, expandable to around 3,300 when including general admission floor seating. The flexible interior configuration allows the venue to adapt to different event types.
During the 1970s and 1980s, this space served as a major venue for professional wrestling events. This unexpected role demonstrates how the building adapted to different forms of entertainment over time.
