The Lexington Hotel NYC, hotel in New York City
The Lexington Hotel NYC is an Art Deco hotel on the corner of Lexington Avenue and 48th Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York. The building has several hundred rooms and a selection of named suites, among them the Norma Jeane Suite and the Hemingway Suite.
The hotel opened in 1929, just as the Great Depression was beginning, which shaped its early years. Over the following decades it passed through several owners and hotel groups before joining Marriott's Autograph Collection.
The hotel takes its name from Lexington Avenue, one of Manhattan's major thoroughfares running through the neighborhood. Inside, Art Deco details and vintage furnishings evoke the glamour and style of the 1920s that shaped the city's cultural landscape.
The hotel stands at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 48th Street, a short walk from Grand Central Terminal where several subway lines meet. From this location it is easy to reach many parts of the city on foot or by public transit.
From 1937 to 1966, the basement of the building housed the Hawaiian Room, a live entertainment venue with tropical music and dance shows that drew large crowds. Artists such as Xavier Cugat performed there, making it one of the more talked-about nightspots in mid-century Manhattan.
