Prince Charles Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Prince Charles Hotel is a historic building in Fayetteville, North Carolina that opened in 1925 as a modern guest house for visitors. The seven-story structure combines Colonial Revival architecture with Italian Renaissance elements, featuring ornamental details around its windows and roof.
The hotel was built in 1923 and opened in 1925 to address Fayetteville's lack of adequate lodging. Originally furnished with about 125 rooms, a new wing with 60 additional rooms was added in 1942, significantly expanding the building's capacity.
The name "Prince Charles" was chosen through a community contest and references Bonnie Prince Charlie, an 18th century Scottish prince whose story connects to Scottish immigration in North Carolina. The building served as a gathering place for important events and remains a landmark tied to the city's identity.
The building sits on busy Hay Street in downtown Fayetteville and is easily accessible on foot. The interior now operates as a residential complex with ground-floor retail spaces including a coffee shop and planned additional shops.
In the 1920s, young people would jump from roof to roof along Hay Street, a daring pastime that became part of local memories of the building. This rooftop adventure represents a hidden chapter in the hotel's past.
