The Junior Order United American Mechanics National Orphans Home consists of five Colonial Revival buildings spread across 225 acres of land.
The complex, designed by Herbert B. Hunter, opened in 1932 to provide shelter and care for children without parents during a challenging economic period.
The architectural design draws inspiration from the University of Virginia, featuring brick walls in Flemish bond pattern and Colonial Revival elements.
The Pennsylvania Building serves as residential quarters while the South Carolina Building functions as an emergency shelter for children in need.
The Samuel F. Vance Auditorium, completed in 1932, remains a central gathering space for educational and recreational activities within the complex.
