Port Aransas Light Station, Historic lighthouse in Aransas County, Texas, US.
The Port Aransas Light Station is an octagonal brick lighthouse standing about 21 meters tall on Harbour Island north of Port Aransas. The white tower emits a flashing light signal that can be seen from far across the water to guide ships safely.
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1855 after Congressional approval, and the station became operational in 1856. The facility has served as a vital navigation point for ships passing through Aransas Pass ever since.
The structure serves as a visual landmark of the region's maritime past and has shaped the coastal landscape for generations. Locals and visitors recognize the white tower immediately as a symbol of South Texas seafaring history.
The lighthouse can be photographed and viewed from several vantage points in the surrounding area. Visitors should know that its island location means walking access is limited and water access may be required.
This station is the only lighthouse on the Texas coast that maintains a full-time caretaker on site. This continuous human presence sets it apart from all other light towers in the region.
