Port Aransas Light Station, Historic lighthouse in Aransas County, Texas, US.
The Port Aransas Light Station is an octagonal brick lighthouse on Harbour Island, north of Port Aransas in Texas. The white tower stands about 70 feet (21 m) tall and sends out a flashing light signal to guide ships through Aransas Pass.
The lighthouse was approved by Congress and first lit in 1856, at a time when ship traffic through Aransas Pass was growing steadily. The station was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its role along the Texas coast.
The structure serves as a visual landmark of the region's maritime past and has shaped the coastal landscape for generations. Locals and visitors recognize the white tower immediately as a symbol of South Texas seafaring history.
The lighthouse sits on Harbour Island and cannot be reached on foot from the mainland, so a boat trip is often needed to get close. The best views of the tower can be had from the water or from nearby shoreline spots around Port Aransas.
The Port Aransas Light Station is one of the few lighthouses in Texas that still has a full-time caretaker living on site. This ongoing human presence makes it stand out among the other light towers along the Texas coast.
