King Neptune

King Neptune is a bronze sculpture at Neptune Park in Virginia Beach that shows the sea god holding his trident on a rocky base. Around the figure, dolphins, fish, and other sea creatures wrap together with the main form, all cast from bronze.

The city festival commissioned the work, which was cast in China and installed along the boardwalk in 2005. The dedication marked a new era for public space along the coast.

The name honors the Roman god of the sea, while the figure with its trident and ocean creatures greets visitors along the boardwalk. The sculpture now serves as a popular meeting point and photo backdrop right by the Atlantic.

The figure stands along the boardwalk near Atlantic Avenue, where wide paths allow access for all visitors. The artwork appears best in natural light, when the bronze shimmers in the sun.

The figure was cast in multiple sections and assembled on site, with each sea creature shaped separately and attached later. The entire casting required special lifting equipment to place the massive form on its foundation.
