Lake Elmer

Lake Elmer, body of water

Lake Elmer is a reservoir in Kingfisher County covering approximately 60 acres with a shoreline stretching about 3.4 miles. The water is calm and surrounded by gentle slopes and scattered trees, with a maximum depth of 18 feet and an average depth of 6 feet, making it suitable for fishing and boating.

The reservoir was constructed in 1962 and is operated by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. In the late 1970s, it was completely drained to deepen the shoreline and build fishing jetties, then refilled and restocked with fish to improve angling opportunities.

The lake serves as a gathering place where local residents and visitors connect with the outdoors through fishing, boating, and family outings. The simple daily rhythm of people coming to relax by the water reflects how this place functions as a natural escape from busy life in the surrounding communities.

A boat ramp provides easy access for launching small boats and kayaks. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon when conditions are pleasant, and plan trips around the warmer months when water temperatures support better fishing and more comfortable outdoor activities.

The lake was completely drained and refilled in the late 1970s to improve fishing quality, a major undertaking that permanently transformed its shoreline and fish populations. This rare renovation demonstrates the commitment to maintaining it as a productive fishing destination for decades to come.
