Carnegie Library

The Carnegie Library in El Reno is a public library with classical architecture featuring a grand entrance, large windows, and traditional reading rooms on multiple levels. The interior preserves period details and continues to serve its original purpose.

The library was built in the early 1900s with funding from Andrew Carnegie's program to establish public libraries across America. It survived the Great Depression and remains one of Oklahoma's original Carnegie buildings still in use.

Local women's groups worked to establish reading spaces and advance education in this part of Oklahoma. The building shows how communities came together to provide learning opportunities for their neighbors.

The building is open to visitors and operates as a working library with standard services. Its historical nature means visitors may want to take time exploring the original architectural features while using library resources.

Only nine Carnegie libraries in Oklahoma have survived to the present day and still serve their original purpose. This building is one of this select group that resisted waves of modernization and abandonment.
