Ziegfeld Theatre, Movie theater in Midtown Manhattan, United States.
The Ziegfeld Theatre was a movie palace located at 141 West 54th Street in Midtown Manhattan with a single large cinema screen and seating for about 1,150 guests. The main floor held orchestra seating while a tiered rear section provided additional viewing spots.
The theater opened in 1969 as a tribute to the original Ziegfeld Theatre from 1927 and was designed by architects Emery Roth & Sons. It served for decades as a flagship venue for major film events and premieres in New York City.
The interior featured gold and maroon colors created by John J. McNamara, maintaining the grandeur of classic New York City movie palaces.
The location is easily accessible by public transit with abundant room for events of any scale. Keep in mind that the space now operates as an event venue rather than a traditional cinema.
After closing in 2016, the building was transformed into an event space inspired by 1930s ocean liner luxury. The ballroom today stands column-free, creating one unbroken open floor.
