Asheboro Hosiery Mills and Cranford Furniture Company Complex, United States historic place
The Asheboro Hosiery Mills and Cranford Furniture Company Complex is a group of red brick factory buildings constructed between 1917 and the 1940s. The site contains three main factory structures, a 1925 office building, a 1950s smokestack, and a late 1950s lumber shed.
The complex emerged during Asheboro's early industrial growth and operated for producing hosiery and furniture between the 1920s and later decades. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011 to protect its industrial heritage.
The factory buildings shaped how the town grew and what people here valued for generations. Walking through the complex, you can see how work and community were connected in Asheboro's daily life.
The buildings remain standing and can be viewed from outside, showing the brick facades and large windows typical of factory design. The site spans several acres and can be walked through to observe the various structures and their architectural details.
The smokestack was built in the 1950s, decades after the original factory structures, showing how the site evolved to meet changing production needs. The late 1950s lumber shed reveals that furniture and textiles were made here together, requiring diverse materials under one complex.
