Highway 79 Bridge, Steel and concrete bridge in Clarendon, United States.
The Highway 79 Bridge is a steel and concrete structure spanning the White River near Clarendon. It features a double cantilevered main span and measures approximately 220 meters long.
The structure was built in 1931 by the Austin Bridge Company and served as a vital link across the White River in Monroe County. It carried traffic on U.S. Route 79 for approximately 85 years before being replaced in 2016.
The bridge earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 for its engineering methods and regional architectural significance.
Access to this structure is possible as it stands as a historic landmark open to visitors. The best time to visit is during daylight hours when lighting reveals the architectural details clearly.
The design uses a Warren truss system with four concrete piers arranged in a specific pattern to support the spans. This engineering approach allowed the bridge to overcome long distances while maintaining structural stability.
