Regions Center, Office building in Birmingham, Alabama
Regions Center is a 30-story skyscraper rising at the corner of 20th Street and 5th Avenue North, distinguished by its reflective glass facade and dark granite base. Inside, it features a street-level banking lobby, a sunken courtyard, and cafeteria facilities in the basement level.
The building was constructed in 1975 as the First National-Southern Natural Building and underwent several name changes following corporate mergers. It became known as Regions Center in 2006 after financial industry consolidations altered ownership and corporate identity.
The building has served as the headquarters of Regions Financial Corporation since 2006 and symbolizes Birmingham's shift from an industrial center to a financial services hub. It shapes the city's skyline and reflects how the region's economic importance has evolved over time.
The building is easily accessed from the street, with banking functions on the ground level and publicly accessible interior spaces. The sunken courtyard with cafeteria facilities provides a good spot to spend time or take a break during a visit.
The building is illuminated during the Christmas season with colored lights that create seasonal displays visible across the city. This holiday decoration tradition transforms the glass facade into a beacon that shapes the downtown landscape during the winter holidays.
