Tempesto, Steel roller coaster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, United States
Tempesto is a steel roller coaster in Williamsburg, Virginia, United States. The installation takes riders along a track of about 863 feet (263 meters) through several acceleration phases, reaching a top speed of about 62 mph (100 km/h).
Busch Gardens Williamsburg filed permits on October 7, 2013, to add an attraction over 156 feet tall to its Festa Italia section. Construction began in August 2014 with land clearing, concrete footers followed in September, and the first track pieces arrived in November. The name Tempesto was announced on March 21, 2015, and the Premier Rides Sky Rocket II opened on April 25, 2015.
Tempesto stands in Festa Italia, the park's Italian-themed section, and its name is Italian for "storm." The orange supports and teal track sit beside the San Marco theater, the landmark used during the 2013 line-of-sight tests before construction. The ride's train has three cars with three rows of two seats, 18 riders in all.
Riders must be at least about 54 inches (137 cm) tall to board. The cars are equipped with lap bars and operate during regular park opening hours.
The car accelerates three times during one ride, once backward. This backward acceleration happens shortly before the climb to the highest point at about 151 feet (46 meters).
