Bald Creek Historic District, Historic district in Yancey County, North Carolina, US

Bald Creek Historic District lies about ten miles west of Burnsville in Yancey County, North Carolina, within the Bald Creek community. It comprises 18 contributing buildings and 5 contributing structures, including the C.W. Burton House (c. 1900), Burton-Howell House (c. 1930), Bald Creek Elementary School and Gymnasium (1938), Bald Creek United Methodist Church (1951–1955), Wilson House (c. 1930), and Glenn Proffitt House (c. 1920).

The district took shape in the early 20th century as families built homes and community buildings. A turning point came in 1938 when new public buildings were constructed with government support.

The district's name comes from the Bald Creek community it sits within, about ten miles west of Burnsville. Its 18 contributing buildings and 5 structures include the C.W. Burton House (c. 1900), the Burton-Howell and Wilson houses (both c. 1930), the Glenn Proffitt House (c. 1920), and the Bald Creek United Methodist Church (1951-1955).

The district is located about 10 miles west of Burnsville and is best visited by car. The buildings are spread across multiple roads, so you will need to walk between them to see the full area.

The Bald Creek Elementary School and Gymnasium, built in 1938 with Works Progress Administration support, are among the district's contributing resources, alongside the C.W. Burton House (c. 1900) and the Bald Creek United Methodist Church (1951-1955). The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
