In 1986, the Trinity Historic District received its National Register of Historic Places designation, with subsequent boundary expansions in 2004 and 2008.
The district includes notable educational structures such as the George W. Watts School, Durham High School, and multiple churches representing different religious denominations.
The district spans 281.9 acres bounded by Green, Duke, Morgan, and West Main Streets, with many properties eligible for federal rehabilitation tax incentives.
Former residents include Joseph Penn Breedlove, Duke University's first librarian, and William Preston Few, the institution's first president.
