Emmanuel AME Church

Emmanuel AME Church features thick brick walls covered with stucco and stands as a prominent Gothic Revival structure at 710 Kent Street in Durham.

Richard B. Fitzgerald, an African American brickmaker, donated both the construction materials and land for the church building in 1888.

The church building has maintained its position as a central gathering place for Durham's African American community since the late nineteenth century.
