Confederate Armory Site, Archaeological site in Holly Springs, United States.
The Confederate Armory Site is a historic factory location in Holly Springs containing remains of an iron foundry spread across approximately 32 acres in Marshall County. The grounds hold materials and traces from when military supplies were produced here.
The site was originally an iron foundry run by Jones, McElwain and Company and was converted into a Confederate weapons factory in 1861. General Van Dorn's attack in 1862 destroyed the facility during the American Civil War.
The site demonstrates how industry served military needs in the South during wartime and how local factories became tied to military production. This type of manufacturing was central to the region's economy at the time.
The grounds are accessible for visitors to explore the factory remains and excavated materials scattered across the property. Wearing comfortable shoes helps since the large site requires walking to see different areas and artifact locations.
Items produced at this foundry ended up in buildings across New Orleans and on gravestones at local cemeteries like Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs. These scattered remnants show how far the factory's output traveled beyond the immediate region.
