St. Louis Southwestern 336, Historic locomotive at Arkansas Railroad Museum, Pine Bluff, United States.
The St. Louis Southwestern 336 is a 2-6-0 Mogul-type locomotive featuring two leading wheels, six driving wheels, and no trailing wheels, a classic design used for freight service in the early 1900s. It is preserved and displayed at the Arkansas Railroad Museum in Pine Bluff for visitors to view and learn about.
Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia in 1909, this locomotive served the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad, known as the Cotton Belt Route, until 1947. It continued working for industrial purposes until 1963 before being preserved.
This locomotive reflects how railroads shaped transportation and trade across the American South, connecting communities and moving goods that drove regional economies. It stands as a reminder of how important rail networks were to the daily life and prosperity of places like Pine Bluff.
You can view the locomotive in the museum's outdoor display area, so plan for exposure to weather conditions as you walk around it. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as examining the machine from different angles takes time and patience.
This machine is the only surviving example of ten locomotives in the 330-series that operated on the Cotton Belt Railroad, making it a rare survivor of that particular class. Its preservation is especially meaningful because so few of this design still exist today.
