The Santa Barbara Vedanta Temple stands on a 45-acre property between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, featuring traditional Indian architectural elements.
Constructed in 1956 on land donated by Spencer Kellogg Jr, the temple received recognition as the finest new civic building in Santa Barbara that same year.
The temple contains a black marble altar with a large painting of Sri Ramakrishna, alongside representations of Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha from 1965.
The temple welcomes visitors daily from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, offering meditation sessions, scripture classes, and Sunday talks at 11:00 AM.
A 12th-century Japanese bronze bell rings three times daily at dawn, noon, and dusk, marking the rhythm of spiritual life at the temple.
