730 Park Avenue, Residential building in Upper East Side Historic District, United States

730 Park Avenue is a 19-story residential building on the Upper East Side featuring neo-Renaissance and neo-Jacobean architectural details. The structure sits among other luxury apartments that line this prestigious Manhattan avenue.

Architect Lafayette Goldstone completed this residential building in 1929 during a major urban development period on the Upper East Side. The project came after Park Avenue was modernized following the covering of its active railroad tracks.

The building reflects how Park Avenue transformed from an industrial railroad route into an exclusive residential neighborhood, where tree-lined malls and luxury apartments now define the streetscape.

The building retains its original exterior while featuring modern interior upgrades and rooftop modifications approved in 2013. Note that this is a private residential building best viewed from the street or during neighborhood walks.

The building stands above covered railroad tracks, which is why Park Avenue was widened at this location to accommodate ventilation systems for the rails below. This expansion allowed luxury apartments like this one to rise above what was once an open industrial corridor.
