740 Park Avenue, Art Deco apartment building in Lenox Hill, Manhattan, US.
740 Park Avenue is a 19-story limestone residence in Lenox Hill, Manhattan, housing 31 units in formats that include duplexes, triplexes, and penthouses. The building features elevator access to each floor and layouts designed to maximize space and privacy for residents.
James T. Lee, grandfather of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, commissioned the building in 1929 as the Great Depression began. Construction continued despite economic turmoil, and the residence opened its doors at a time when many luxury projects in New York were halted.
The building represents the architectural vision of Rosario Candela, who designed numerous residential structures along Park Avenue during the 1920s.
The building offers round-the-clock doorman service and separate entrances for residents. Central Park is within walking distance, providing outdoor space for those who live in the area.
John D. Rockefeller Jr. moved into a duplex here in 1937, lending the address considerable prestige. His former residence changed hands in 2000 for 30 million dollars, setting a record for the time.
