Parkside Candy Shoppe and Factory, historic commercial building in New York, United States

Parkside Candy Shoppe and Factory is a historic building complex in Buffalo featuring a retail shop and a two-story factory behind it, both constructed of brick and stone. The site includes a small three-bay wooden garage and covers less than half an acre, displaying the straightforward industrial architecture typical of the 1920s.

George Kaiser and his wife founded the sweet shop in 1919, and the main brick building with the adjoining factory was constructed between 1925 and 1927. Factory operations began in 1927 with later expansions around 1928 and 1955 to meet growing demand.

The site reflects Arts and Crafts design from the early 1900s, showing how candy production was woven into local community life. You can see how workers once moved through these spaces and how the craft of candy making was part of everyday Buffalo culture.

The complex sits on Main Street and is straightforward to locate, with simple parking available in the quiet neighborhood surrounding it. You can walk around the exterior to appreciate the brick and stone craftsmanship that has endured nearly a century.

The buildings served as a filming location for the 1983 movie 'The Natural' starring Robert Redford because the architecture looked authentically like a 1930s shop. Some factory workers even appeared as extras in the film, helping bring that historical period to life.
