Greenough Park is a 42-acre natural park in Missoula, Montana, donated by the Greenough family in 1902 as the city's first park. Rattlesnake Creek flows through it, creating a riparian habitat. The park has a pavilion, horseshoe pits, a playground, picnic tables, a bathroom, and a one-mile paved main trail for biking and walking.
The Greenough family donated the land to the city of Missoula in 1902, making it the first official park in the city. The natural character of the land has been kept largely unchanged since then, which is why native trees and wildlife still thrive there.
The main trail is one mile long and paved for both bicycle and pedestrian travel, so it is the route to use on wheels. The park sits about 1.5 km east of central Missoula, within walking distance of downtown. A bathroom facility, pavilion and picnic tables are on site.
The Greenough family mansion once stood on this land; it was moved to make way for Interstate 90. The park's donor asked that Missoulians find here "a comfortable, romantic, and poetic retreat" during summer heat, autumn colour and spring warmth.
