Greenough Park, Park in Missoula, Montana, US
Greenough Park is a roughly 42-acre natural area in the heart of Missoula, Montana. The park runs along Rattlesnake Creek and features a one-mile loop trail, picnic tables, benches, and two bridges crossing the creek.
The Greenough family donated the land to the city of Missoula in 1902, making it the first official park in the city. The natural character of the land has been kept largely unchanged since then, which is why native trees and wildlife still thrive there.
The park is easy to reach on foot or by bike from central Missoula. Bikes are not allowed on the informal side trails, so walkers have those paths to themselves.
Near the entrance stands an old stone enclosure about 15 feet (4.5 meters) across, a leftover from a zoo that was once planned for the park in the early 1900s but never completed. It still stands today as a quiet reminder of that abandoned idea.
