Missoula Public Library stands at 455 E. Main St. in downtown Missoula. The building holds a café, a shop, and the Missoula Community Access Television production studio, alongside a University of Montana Living Lab. Its Makerspace, computer lab with more than twenty stations, and two study rooms sit among the shelves.

The library opened in 1894. Its Carnegie building, funded by Andrew Carnegie, opened on 13 January 1903 at 335 N. Pattee St.; that structure is now part of the Missoula Art Museum. The main library now stands at 455 E. Main St.

The Missoula Book Fair, first held in 1989 for Montana's state centennial, continues because it raises money for the library and promotes local authors. Friends of Missoula Public Library has supported the library since 1969. Cardholders also borrow seeds from the Five Valleys Seed Library and consult the Montana Collection in the Audra Browman Research Room.

The main library stands at 455 E. Main St. and is open to all Montana residents, who can get a free card. Inside are more than twenty computer stations, two study rooms, self-checkout and self-hold pickup, plus a café. Beyond books, cardholders borrow laptops, binoculars, telescopes, life jackets and kill-a-watt meters.

In 2022 the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions named it Public Library of the Year, and the World Library and Information Congress called it the World's Best Library. The same building holds a Missoula Community Access Television studio and a University of Montana Living Lab.
