Beavertail Hill State Park, State park on Clark Fork River in Clinton, Montana
Beavertail Hill State Park is a recreational area on the Clark Fork River in Clinton that covers about 65 acres. Cottonwood trees form a canopy above the shoreline, with established paths running through the property.
An old railroad line from the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad cuts through the park grounds. This route once carried passengers, mail, and freight until service ended in the early 1980s.
The name refers to the shape of the landscape that resembles a beaver's tail. Locals use this spot for picnics and watching wildlife throughout the seasons.
The park has 24 campsites with electric hookups and two tipis available for overnight stays. Vehicles must be under 28 feet long to park here, and the area is open year-round.
Rainbow and brown trout thrive in the calm sections of the Clark Fork River throughout the park. At the same time, visitors often spot mountain whitefish and a range of bird species that nest in the cottonwood canopy above.
