Otis Park and Golf Course, Public golf course and historic park in Bedford, United States
Otis Park and Golf Course is a 145-acre complex featuring a golf course, walking trails, and open green spaces across the property. The site contains several historic buildings from the 1930s, including a clubhouse, bathhouse, and band shell, along with landscaped gardens and gathering areas.
This complex was developed between 1937 and 1941 by the Works Progress Administration to create sports and leisure facilities for the community. This period was marked by major public investment in jobs and infrastructure following the Great Depression.
The buildings on this site showcase classical and craftsman architecture from the 1930s, with a 1939 band shell and bathhouse still hosting community events today. These structures reflect how public spaces were once designed for people to gather and celebrate together.
The grounds are open year-round and offer golf instruction and equipment rentals for players of all abilities. The walking paths and green spaces can be freely explored, and the main buildings are easily accessible on foot throughout the property.
The property contains five original buildings, four separate sites, and eight structures from the 1930s Depression era listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This collection is a rare example of completely preserved recreational architecture from that period.
