Indiana Limestone Company Building
Indiana Limestone Company Building, Neoclassical limestone office building in Bedford, United States
The Indiana Limestone Company Building is a two-story office structure in Neoclassical style located in Bedford, a center of limestone production. Its L-shaped form features a grand staircase with curved railings and limestone flooring that connects both levels.
The building was constructed in 1927 as the headquarters and display showroom for the Indiana Limestone Company. It was later transformed into a branch campus for Oakland City University.
The building displays the importance of the limestone industry to this region through its choice of materials and variety of stone types in its finishes. Visitors can see how local craftsmanship traditions are expressed in the architectural details.
The building is located in downtown Bedford and is easily accessible to visitors. Keep in mind that modern windows define the exterior, while the interior maintains classic stone elements and period details.
An outdoor courtyard displays a collection of different limestone types found in the region, showing the variety in appearance and character of the local stone. A scale model of a quarry operation gives visitors insight into the extraction methods used during the building's era.
