Badlands Motor Speedway, Racetrack
Huset's Speedway is a dirt oval racetrack in Brandon, South Dakota, used for motorsport events since 1954. The oval track stretches about 3/8 mile (600 m) long with grandstands on either side, featuring a racing surface suitable for sprint cars, midget cars, and late models.
The track was built in 1953 by a local farmer and opened in 1954, becoming known as Huset's Speedway. After periods of closure, it reopened multiple times and established weekly sprint car racing from 1980 onward, with another reopening in 2020 under new ownership.
The track bears the name of the farmer who built it in the 1950s, reflecting how local initiative shaped the community. Race days brought neighbors and families together, making it a gathering place where people shared their enthusiasm for racing and spent time as a community.
The track is easily accessible with a large parking lot for visitors. Spectator grandstands are positioned on both sides of the facility, and there are food vendors and amenities on-site to help you spend the whole day comfortably.
The track was known for its rough and slippery dirt conditions that kicked up dust as vehicles raced around it. This challenging surface made racing there a specialty that drew drivers from across the country seeking to test their skills.
