Comstock Hotel & Casino, Hotel and casino in downtown Reno, Nevada
The Comstock Hotel & Casino was a 16-story tower in downtown Reno, Nevada, combining hotel rooms with a full casino floor and amenities such as an outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and fitness room. The building also housed two restaurants, a deli, and several event spaces for private gatherings.
The property opened in 1978, built through a joint venture between the Fiesta Corporation and the Comstock Land and Development Company, each holding an equal share. The building became part of a wave of downtown Reno development that reshaped the city center during that period.
The gaming floor was decorated with Old West figures, giving the space a frontier-town feel that visitors could walk through while playing. On the upper floors, live piano music played regularly, creating a different mood from the typical casino noise below.
The building sits in the center of downtown Reno and connects to nearby attractions and businesses via covered walkways. Visitors on foot can reach much of the surrounding area without needing to go outside, which is helpful during summer heat or winter cold.
The exterior walls were fitted with programmable light panels that changed the building's appearance completely after dark. This kind of display was unusual for a hotel of this size at the time and made it easy to spot from a distance at night.
