Bloomington City Hall, historic city hall located at Bloomington, Indiana
Bloomington City Hall is a three-story limestone building in the center of Bloomington, Indiana, featuring Beaux-Arts style architecture with classical proportions and a modest portico at its entrance. The structure was expanded in 1950 and 1972 to maintain its functionality while preserving its original design character.
The building was constructed in 1915 and initially served as the seat of city government as well as the police and fire departments. In 1990, the city transferred it to the Bloomington Area Arts Council, transforming it into a cultural center, and in 2022 it came under the management of Constellation Stage and Screen.
The building is known by multiple names in the community: City Hall, Waldron Arts Center, and formerly as the Fire Station. Today it functions as a venue for art galleries, performances, and cultural activities, showing how the city has repurposed its historic spaces for contemporary use.
The City Hall is located on South Walnut Street in Bloomington's historic downtown and is easily accessible on foot. Its limestone facade and classical exterior make it easy to spot, especially when exploring the local historic district.
Since 1994, the building has housed WFHB Community Radio, a local station that broadcasts music, news, and local events. This radio station has given the building a contemporary voice while connecting its past administrative role to modern community engagement.
