Rockland Breakwater

The Rockland Breakwater is a massive granite structure built to protect the harbor from rough ocean waves and heavy storms. A lighthouse sits at the far end, serving as a navigation guide for vessels entering the water.

This breakwater was built in the 1880s to create a safe harbor for maritime traffic and fishing vessels. Decades of work moved enormous quantities of stone to establish this protective coastal structure.
