Megunticook Golf Club

Megunticook Golf Club is a nine-hole course spanning 66 acres on the east side of Beachamp Point peninsula, providing views of Rockport Harbor and Penobscot Bay. The clubhouse features a broad wraparound porch with a rubblestone foundation and offers facilities for golf, tennis, and pickleball.

The club was established in 1899 and opened in 1902, making it Maine's oldest surviving private golf course. The layout was designed by Warren H. Manning in 1912 and continues to shape how the site appears today.

The Craftsman-style clubhouse reflects social conventions of the early 1900s through its separate spaces like a reading room and ladies' parlor, showing how visitors were accommodated differently back then.

The facility sits on a peninsula with natural elevation changes and rock outcroppings that challenge players. Visitors should prepare for uneven ground and wear comfortable shoes to navigate the terrain.

The course integrates natural hills and ledge outcroppings of the coastal landscape in ways that create an unusual challenge for golf. This harmony with the land makes each hole feel distinct and rooted in the surrounding environment.
