Curtis Island Light, Maritime navigation aid at Camden Harbor entrance, United States.
The Curtis Island Light stands 25 feet tall, constructed of brick, and emits a green signal visible for 6 nautical miles across Camden Harbor.
The first lighthouse was built in 1835 by George Galt of Massachusetts under President Andrew Jackson's order, with construction costs reaching $4,500.
The island changed its name from Negro Island to Curtis Island in 1934 to honor Cyrus Curtis, a notable summer resident of Camden.
Access to Curtis Island requires a boat, though visitors can view the lighthouse from Curtis Island Overlook on Bayview Street near Beacon Street.
The original Fresnel lens from the lighthouse now resides in the Camden town office on Elm Street, where residents and visitors examine it.
