Camden, Maritime town in Knox County, Maine, US

Camden is a maritime town in Knox County, Maine, situated between Mount Battie and Penobscot Bay. Its natural harbor hosts numerous sailing vessels and fishing boats that define the waterfront character.

The town was established in 1791 when the Massachusetts General Court incorporated the Megunticook Plantation and named it after British Parliament member Charles Pratt. A major fire in 1892 destroyed much of the settlement but led to the reconstruction of important structures.

The town's connection to maritime traditions shapes how locals and visitors gather around the waterfront. Sailing culture is deeply woven into daily life, with boats serving as both livelihood and recreation for many people here.

The town is easy to navigate with clear paths along the waterfront and through downtown streets. Summer months offer the best visiting conditions with warm weather and all local attractions fully operational.

The U.S. National Toboggan Championships happen here annually, with participants racing down a 400-foot ice chute at high speeds. This distinctive winter event draws spectators from across the country to watch the thrilling races.
